Rolyn Hills B&B and Guest Ranch

A visit to Rolyn Hills will offer you a choice of quiet solitude or a chance to check out your adventurous side.  Old fashioned western hospitality is on the menu when you arrive at our century ranch just minutes from Red Deer in Central Alberta, half way between Edmonton and Calgary.
The B&B has a separate entrance to the lower level 3 bedrooms.  Two of the bedrooms have a queen bed and 1 room has a double.  There are 2 pull outs or cots available  for extra family. You might want to relax in the sitting area with a book or play us a tune on the piano; perhaps you will be challenged to a game of pool.
A breakfast menu is discussed upon your arrival - allergies, likes, and dislikes. With prior knowlege we will do out best to cater to special diets.
Breakfast will be served family style in our large country kitchen. We trust we can get your day started in an appropriate manner whether you are just passing through our area or are planning to stay for a ranch visit.

The Homestead, our self-catering guest house, is perfect if you are looking for a secluded retreat.  It features 800 square feet of cozy, rustic charm that can make you feel "miles away" from civilization.  The kitchen is equipped with what you need to cook a meal for friends or family -including a dishwasher and BBQ.
The fireplace adds ambiance as well as warmth to any occasion whether it's a family reunion,  scrapbooking or craft retreat, or just a relaxing time to hangout with your friends. The dorm-style bedroom has a queen bed, a double bed in the loft above, and 4 single bunks.  All beds feature warm, hand-made quilts. One and one half baths available.
To enjoy the evening air step out onto the verandah and watch the sun as it makes it's way over the hill.  Perhaps later you might want to join your guitar-playing hosts around the campfire in a singsong or "jam" session. Any and all musical instruments are welcome.
Sometimes you will hear the howl of a coyote or hooting of an owl as you watch the sparks from the fire disappear into the darkness above your head.
A hike into the "Rolyn Hills" can often reward you with sightings of deer, coyotes, birds of various species and beautiful scenery that Mother Nature displays.  You don't have to go far to hear the "sounds of silence".
For ranch guests, a suitable horse will be chosen.  The guest is then encouraged to be involved with brushing and saddling and just getting familiar with the animal. Sometimes we are able to ride out from the main ranch yard to check the herd, but other times we will trailer the horses up to the pasture in order to complete the job a little quicker. While  checking the herd, we find there are sometimes cattle that need to be doctored.  As the herd is away from the corrals, the critter is roped and then treated right in the pasture. As with any job, a cowboy who is skilled at roping and riding will be able to treat the animal in an efficient manner and make it look easy!  
Our guests are able to have a first-hand view of life on the ranch.  There is always the opportunity to practise roping skills back at the ranch on "the dummy" or to become more comfortable by riding in the arena.
