About this site
The benefits of a Web Site.
To improve communication to and from ABBA members and executive.
To provide a central repository for ABBA literature, including bylaws, inspection criteria, newsletters, meeting minutes,
membership list, etc.
To provide an easy-to-use way for
potential new members to find out what ABBA is all about.
To provide a method for the general
public to find out which B & Bs are ABBA members in good standing.
To work in partnership with commercial
on-line B & B guides to provide "basic" information on our member B & Bs
(it is not our intention to compete with these on-line services, but to supplement their
offerings).
How much does BBAlberta.com cost the Association?
The domain name (bbalberta.com) costs
$35 Canadian per year. We register the domain annually.
The Internet provider costs about
$250 Canadian per year.
The webmaster, Rick
Hawkes, charges $5.00 per B&B to create, maintain, troubleshoot and
enhance the B&B pages. There is a minimal charge of $10.00 for each
page, other than B&B pages.
What kind of technology drives this website?
The ABBA website runs on a Windows
2000 server.
Active Server Pages are
used throughout the website. This means that for nearly every page, a
database is consulted and data is drawn from it to build the web page. This
is leading edge technology, and allows incredible flexibility and
scalability.
The database is an SQL
database, which runs on SQL server. This software is extremely robust and
able to handle as much traffic as we can throw at the site without crashing.
